Singing Celebration

TKTS

Wow, was I proud of our choir!

Last Wednesday, 18th May, the choir performed in a singing celebration with Vocal Works Gospel Choir, Bath Youth Gospel Choir and Tracey King Theatre School. We started with a massed sing of 'Don't Stop Believing', and then each group performed their own songs. Newbridge sang 'It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got that Swing' and then our fantastic Pop Medley from the O2 show. The whole evening finished with a massed sing of 'Happy Day' and 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'.

If you would like to know details about joining any of the other groups, please contact me, or ask your child to pick up a flier from the music room.

Music Catchup...at last

It's a long time since 'Houston Landed'. I guess I've just been too busy having fun to keep this up to date. Sorry. I'm going to try and add some of the most memorable photos from the last few years soon but in the mean time, here are a few big achievements the children have made over the past 2 and 1/2 years
  • classroom music follows a scheme of work emphasizing performing, composing and listening. I am amazed how much each class achieves especially as many of the resources are those I used to use at KS3. What an amazing job year 5 did in the Egg last year performing Tubular Bells as part of the opening of the Bath Festival. One year will be given the opportunity to play a classroom piece in the Bath Primary Arts Festival in June this year. Did you know that this term year 2 are learning how to recognise and compose music that is high/low and long/short, year 3 are composing ostinatos and creating a structured piece, year 4 are learning to read music notes and compose with rhythms, year 5 are learning to play a brass or woodwind instrument as well as compose emotional music, and year 6 are learning how to write music for their own songs?
  • the choir has gone from strength to strength: 100 members from year 3-6 singing a wide range of songs and in harmony too!
  • the orchestra has 24 members and is polishing off music up to grade 4 standard and includes violins, cellos, guitars, flutes, trumpets, trombones, horns, keyboard and percussion

  • the blues band has 23 members and is learning how to improvise using a 12 bar blues as well as play music written for KS3 ! We've got keyboards, drum kit, bass guitar, electric guitar. Last Christmas the band performed in the Abbey
  • the recorder ensemble has 20 players ranging from near beginners to increasingly expert! They performed in the Abbey this Christmas and sounded gorgeous
  • concerts....? WOW, so proud of how hard everybody works for them
  • 02........? And again please, well worth it. Thanks so much to the NPSA for donating money, to parents who helped on the day, all parents for encouraging the practise and staff for helping whenever.
